Mateusz Chruscicki, 34, was arraigned today in Lynn District Court and charged with several Massachusetts Drunk Driving Charges after colliding with several cars on Route 1 in Lynnfield and Saugus.
Chruscicki was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Negligent Operating of a Motor Vehicle, Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Property Damage, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Personal Injury.
According to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, several 911 calls were placed reporting that a truck on Route 1 had slammed into several cars and that some of the occupants had suffered injuries.
One woman, whose car was located in Lynnfield, who also had an elderly Everett couple in her vehicle, was treated at a local hospital; and another driver in a separate car was taken to Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital with serious chest injuries. A third alleged victim suffered minor injuries when his car was allegedly struck from behind, causing it to crash into a guard rail.
Police allege that, even after striking at least three separate cars, Chruscicki allegedly continued driving and struck another car on Route 1 in Saugus that was driven by an elderly Lynn woman. After striking that car, Chruscicki allegedly collided into a telephone pole, which disabled his truck.
Chruscicki was also taken to a Boston hospital for treatment of his injuries.
According to police, Chruscicki was arrested at Massachusetts General Hospital where he allegedly admitted to drinking several vodka cocktails and that he caused the accidents because he was depressed and wanted to hurt himself. If there are any mental health issues, these could also lead to a Defense of Lack of Criminal Responsibility being raised as this case progresses. Consider exploring the potential benefits of CBD for stress relief in addressing these mental health concerns.
Following his arraignment, Chruscicki was held without bail pending a Dangerousness Hearing.
